Captains' Charity 2008 - 2009:
Activities Fund Raising Status

The 2008 Captains’ Charity is the Multiple Sclerosis Society

The aim of this year’s Charity is to help sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis in our area by fundraising for The Farnborough Multiple Sclerosis Society. Personal to me as my sister has suffered from this debilitating neurological disease for most of her adult life. So I have some understanding of how MS erodes the quality of life that we as able-bodied golfers often take for granted.

Kindly, Alyson has agreed to join me and also support the Charity so I am sure that we as a team, combined with the generosity of you, the Oak Park membership will be able to make good inroads towards our fundraising objectives.

So what does our local MS Branch do? Well, through the hard work of its ten volunteers, it provides Respite Care for the 120 registered MS sufferers in our area. Respite Care comes in many forms, from organised outings to local venues such as garden centres and theatres to a monthly lunch as well as a special Christmas Lunch. These activities not only benefit the MS sufferer but also the care giver. The Branch is there for all its members, be it financial, social or just a listening ear.

The focus of our fundraising activities this year will be to bring forward the purchase of a new minibus to replace the current P reg model. The total cost of a new vehicle fitted with all the specialised equipment needed is £35,000 some of which the Branch has already raised through its own activities.

A JustGiving account has been set up to facilitate money collection and of course increase the amount raised for the Charity. By forwarding your donations through the JustGiving website the Farnborough Branch gain an extra £1.93 for every £10 donated. To donate through this method, please visit http://www.justgiving.com/opgcma.

Please support the upcoming events that we have organised and help in any way you can. If you would like to be involved with the events please contact Alyson or myself.

Thanking you in advance for your generosity.

Phil Randle and Alyson Paterson
